What do you think of when I say the word “multiculturalism”? For me, the thought of different races, cultures, and religions joining together as a community comes to mind.
Canadian multiculturalism ensures that all citizen can keep their identities and take pride in their ancestry. Acceptance gives Canadians a feeling of self confidence, making them more accepting of diverse cultures.
I chose multiculturalism as my platform because I am from two completely different backgrounds, Filipino and Canadian. Because I am half Filipina and Canadian, I can relate to a lot of people and their different backgrounds.
I think that multiculturalism is very important because it is what brought us together as a nation. We learned to understand each others culture and the way things are done. We have learned to accept each others skin colour, whether it be black, brown or white. This is what has brought Canada together.
If I was Miss Teenage Canada, I would tell people, it doesn’t matter what colour you are, what religion you are or what race, because in the end we are all equal, and we all need to remember that. Nobody is better than anyone else.
I am so happy that Canada adopted the multiculturalism policy because I believe that everyone being accepted for who they are and being respected for who they are is extremely important.
Just remember, be proud of who you are.
lots of love xx
