IMG_9133With winning Miss Teenage South Central Ontario in January, yesterday I got to attend the opening night of Kidstock as a titleholder.

The opening night of Kidstock was put on by the Canadian Contemporary Dance Theatre (CCDT) and sponsored by Sharon Donahoe. CCDT is a modern company of dancers under 20 years of age. However, based on the professionalism of the dancers, you couldn’t even tell they were so young! I love watching dancers who are talented beyond their years, which is what made CCDT’s performance so amazing to watch. No dance that was performed looked like another, making the entire set unpredictable. One of my favourite pieces happen to be Mr. Howe’s favourite as well! The dance revolved around the precision of passing around a ball. It was interesting because this choreographer took an every-day action and evolved it into a dance. It was also executed very precisely and at a fast speed, making the piece have suspension for whether or not a ball would be dropped. Safe to say, I was at the edge of my seat for this entire dance.

It was especially special to see the Canadian Contemporary Dance Theatre because I danced in their summer program 4 years ago. I had a great time catching up with Deborah Lundmark, Founder and Artistic Director of CCDT, after the show, as well as one of the company dancers who was at that same summer intensive. On top of taking a walk down memory lane, their closing performance was choreographed by Hanna Kiel – a current instructor of mine. Her piece was one of my favourites as well, so natural and beautiful to watch.

Bravo dancers! It was so nice to get to meet you all, and watch you perform so well!

So how exactly was I apart of the event?

On top of being an audience member, I got to be one of the opening speakers for Kidstock. I spoke about myself as a titleholder, and then introduced Mr. Howe – the visionary behind the Kidstock Festival and its artistic director.

After the show, I even got to take some pictures with some of the other audience members!

It was such a fun event, and I’m so glad this is accessible to the Quinte region. I am super glad to have been invited to be apart of the closing day for Kidstock as well! Stay tuned after May 15th to hear all about Quinte Symphony’s performance at Kidstock, however I highly suggest you attend so that you too can experience the great day!

Talk soon!
